On 20/10/2023, the European Commission published answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) to help Businesses apply the criteria for determining the “sustainability” of their activities, pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2020/852 on Taxonomy.
In particular, the Commission provides a series of answers to common questions on the application of Regulation (EU) 2021/2139, which sets out the technical screening criteria for determining whether certain economic activities contribute substantially to the objectives of climate change mitigation and climate change adaptation, do not cause significant harm to the environment and can therefore be considered “sustainable”.
The application of the technical screening criteria is essential so that businesses can demonstrate taxonomy alignment, but it is also important for identifying opportunities for improvement in economic activities that are eligible for the taxonomy but not yet aligned with it.
