Clear, documented and usable technical assessments
A technical appraisal makes it possible to reconstruct, analyse and document a technical situation methodically, providing useful support in proceedings, disputes, checks, party requests or whenever an objective assessment is needed.
CSIA produces technical appraisals as a Court-Appointed Technical Expert and a Party-Appointed Technical Expert, with an approach based on methodological rigour, documented analysis and the ability to present technical aspects clearly and understandably.
When a technical appraisal may be needed
A technical appraisal is a useful tool whenever it is necessary to analyse, reconstruct or document a technical situation in a way that is clear, well-founded and usable, including in formal or formally relevant contexts.
Need for an independent technical assessment
Situations requiring an objective and documented analysis, carried out by an independent party with specific technical expertise on the matter.
Support in judicial or out-of-court matters
Proceedings requiring a structured technical contribution — such as a CTU report or CTP assistance — to support the correct presentation of the technical aspects.
Analysis of events, damage or technical liability
Cases requiring the reconstruction of the causes of an event, the assessment of the extent of damage or the analysis of the technical liability connected to a specific situation.
Valuation assessments and sworn documentation
Need for a documented technical estimate, also in sworn form, to support decisions, negotiations or obligations that require certified technical data.
CTU and CTP: two distinct roles
In technical-judicial and out-of-court matters, CSIA operates in two complementary capacities, with different approaches and aims depending on the context and the party requesting support.
The CTU acts as an assistant to the judge, tasked with providing impartial technical assessments in support of the judicial authority. The assignment involves analysing the documentation, carrying out any site inspection, technically assessing the case and drafting a structured report according to the instructions received.
The CTU's work requires methodological rigour, clarity of presentation and the ability to make technical aspects understandable even in non-specialist contexts.
The CTP assists one of the parties involved in the proceedings, analysing documentation, technical aspects and critical points to help correctly present the technical elements relevant to that party.
The CTP does not act impartially like the CTU, but performs a technical role supporting the party: it analyses, verifies, identifies critical points and helps prepare the technical aspects competently and methodically.
The types of appraisal produced by CSIA
The service covers the main types of technical appraisal, with an approach adapted to the specifics of the case and the objectives of the assessment requested.
Technical appraisals
Technical analysis and documentation of situations, events or artefacts to provide an objective assessment usable in formal or informal contexts.
Sworn appraisals
Appraisals drawn up under the expert's responsibility, with enhanced formal value. Useful when technical documentation is required with an explicit assumption of responsibility for the content.
Road accident analysis
Technical assessment of road accidents: reconstruction of the dynamics, damage analysis and technical documentation to support the handling of the case in insurance or judicial settings.
Valuation appraisals
Technical estimate of the value or extent of assets, damage or specific situations, with a methodical approach and documentation supporting the assessment produced.
An approach grounded in method
Not a rigid process, but a structured way of working that adapts to the specifics of each assignment, always starting from the analysis of the documentation and the actual situation.
Gathering and analysis of documentation
Examination of the records, technical documents and available information relating to the case to be analysed.
Technical assessment of the case
Technical analysis of the relevant aspects, with reference to the specialist knowledge applicable to the specific situation.
Site inspection if needed
When necessary, direct inspection of the locations, systems or elements being appraised to supplement the documentary assessment.
Drafting of the appraisal
Preparation of the technical report, clearly structured and suited to the context and objectives of the assignment.
Support in interpreting the findings
Availability to support the client in understanding and using the findings of the appraisal in the relevant context.
Reliable technical support in situations that call for rigour and method.
